The Medical Equipment Library
The Groenkloof Foundation has launched a vital initiative—The Medical Equipment Library.
This project promotes the Foundation’s objective of supporting senior citizens to live with meaning and dignity.
The project aims to make essential medical equipment, such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and walkers etc., available to support the daily needs of our residents and their caregivers. Accessible equipment can make a significant difference, promoting independence and improving the quality of life for residents while easing the physical demands on carers.
By offering these resources, we are committed to fostering a safer, more comfortable environment for all. We warmly invite residents and the public to support this project—whether by donating equipment, making the Foundation aware of specific needs, or volunteering to source or maintain equipment or help manage the library.
Together, we can ensure that all residents have access to the support.

Carer Wellness Programme
The Carer Wellness Programme is built on a Christian foundation. The program features 17 short episodes covering a variety of themes, including ill health, good health, and ways to support others.
Initially designed to support the spiritual and mental wellbeing of caregivers at Groenkloof Retirement Village, the program’s value soon extended beyond Groenkloof when requests to share the material came from other institutions in South Africa and internationally.
In late 2024, the Groenkloof Foundation became the custodian of the program, and it is our pleasure to make it accessible online through the Foundation’s website.
More about the Author
Huibrecht McDonald is the author of the Carer Wellness Programme. She resides in Groenkloof Retirement Village in George, South Africa. She is a retired registered nurse and author.
Huibrecht lectured at Rietvlei Mission Hospital in the Transkei, South Africa, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare practitioners. Alongside theologians, they frequently grappled with profound questions posed by patients and staff. Drawing on these experiences, she was commissioned to write the book Helping People to Good Health, which was published in 1979.
Her most recent contribution, the Carer Wellness Programme reflects her enduring passion for uplifting others through knowledge and compassion, again as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Virtual Lounge
Whether Grandpa or Grandma is being cared for in the frail care section or the new rehabilitation hospital, or if they are any of the more than one thousand residents, they can all enjoy free visits with their children on the big screen in the comfort of a virtual living room. So, there’s no reason to feel lonely in Groenkloof!
Knitting
In a heartwarming community initiative, ladies from the Groenkloof Retirement Village come together to knit a variety of handcrafted items.
The project not only provides comfort to those who receive the items, but also offers the participants a sense of purpose, fostering a deep sense of community and connection.
Through this creative and meaningful activity, the ladies experience the joy of giving back, while building lasting friendships and contributing to something larger than themselves.
